Analysts see potential in Bills linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio

He started his collegiate career as a walk on at the University of Washington.

Now Edefuan Ulofoshio is living his dream after his selection in the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills.

Ulofoshio, as linebacker for Washington, was first team All-Pac 12 a season ago.

He was also named second team All-America by Pro Football Focus (PFF) in 2023.

According to Sports Illustrated and Ralph Ventre, the Alasakan native could be a special teams stalwart.

“Ulofoshio initially broke onto the field covering kickoffs as a freshman in 2018. In his first collegiate appearance, he forced fumbles on two separate kick returns.”

He began to see significant snaps at linebacker in 2019 but remained a special team’s contributor through this time in Seattle.

Ulofoshio claimed the UW Coaches’ Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the 2022 Alamo Bowl, said Ventre after the pick.

Ulofshio commented on his journey from walk on to Washington starter with the Buffalo media after his selection.

The Draft Network’s Brentley Weissman said Ulofshio’s tape shows a defender with solid short area quickness needed to close on swiftly developing plays.

“In the passing game, Ulofoshio flashes good speed to carry tight ends vertically as well as cover ground to get to the flats. He has good short-area quickness to click-and-close on throws that are in front of him and he gets good depth in his zone drops. With that said, Ulofoshio gathers in transitions and shows some lower-body tightness, so pass-catchers can separate from him on sharp-breaking cuts,” he wrote

Ulofoshio has above-average size and put impressive NFL Combine numbers. Those numbers don’t always show up on tape, Weissman added.

“But he is a good athlete overall,” he said.

Olofoshio told reporters over the weekend he feels adaptable to the NFL game and is ready for the challenge in Buffalo.

If he continues to prove himself, he could be a valuable backup to Pro Bowler Matt Milano this season.
